Hiatus.....

Thu Jul 2, 2009, 7:20 AM
I want to thank everyone who continued to look at my work while I took a short break from Deviant. It was something I truly needed....not just from deviant but also from many other things too. I ddid miss everyone and I am very back logged in replies but I will plow through them as quickly as possible.

The weather has improved tremendously although we are still water logged. It rains every day for some short time but at least the sun comes out and warms the soul. My garden is am explosion of color and growth. The lilies have taken off and the roses are producing new blooms. Everyday seems to bring something new and different. I can hardly keep up.

I got the next four days off...so today is mine...to do with what ever I want. Tomorrow I am supposed to go to the Bronx Botanical Garden. Hopefully it won't be too hot and sticky. Saturday and Sunday are still unplanned but definitely fireworks somewhere!

Rain, humidty and fog

Sun Jun 21, 2009, 5:54 PM
I beginning to feel like I live on a tropical island, in a rain forest!. we have had heavy rains, intermittant rains and drizzle for the last three days with a rare peep of the sun (more tease than anything else)and a promise of more during the week. The slightest movement leaves you covered in sweat and dripping. And the humdity is enough to make you queasy to your stomach. The ground is so water logged that when it rains it's flooding.... which just means the mosquitos have prime breeding places. Those suckers are the size of dragons! And reeeeeaaalllly hungry too!

The photographic opportunities are zilch....the rains killed the roses...most of them anyway. The bees are hiding. Haven't seen any ladybugs in weeks even the birds seem to be less than usual. <<<sigh>>> It's the first day of summer and we haven't felt the sun in weeks! Like I said...tropical rain forest!

Since the photography is out the creative juices were backing up so how else to create... I know! :lightbulb: Let's create a veritable feast :) ... so that's what I did. I made a vegetable soup from scratch. Followed by several varieties of veggies. Followed by a beef bourguignon, Small hambergers for work day lunch and that was just for the next few days... today we had company, so I made a roast beef in a wine broth and served with a simple version of a mole (pronounced MO-LAY) sauce ...a slightly spicy chocolate sauce. Followed that with a Death by chocolate cake that also featured dark chocolate mousse. From the appreciative yumming..I think it came out pretty good!

Now I'm pooped and ready for bed. I had hoped to catch up on the messages but I'll have to do that this week. Have a good week everyone.

Water logged...

Thu Jun 18, 2009, 3:00 PM
It started raining last night and hasn't taken a break since.... heavy rains for most of the afternoon and still going strong. I'm starting to feel water logged. Everything feels damp and cold and moldy! The humidity is probably about 200%. Too much more of this and I think we just may qualify as a tropical island.

My allergies are having a grand old time, especially considering I'm allergic to mold. And the barometric pressure roller coaster is just doing wonders for the migraines. Not to mention the aches and pains! Oy! And it looks like this will take a good ten days to clear out... :faint:

On the bright side (if there is such a thing) at least we aren't having any tornadoes. I read the the midwest is being hit pretty hard. My prayers to any who are in the areas that are being hit.

Someone at work wondered if the birth rate on Long Island will rise in nine months? Good question and the answer is probably ... considering there is nothing else to do.. :giggle:

Time flies

Sun Jun 14, 2009, 10:37 AM
I just wrote a whole page full and somehow managed to lose the entire thing.... sigh ...just like my luck lately.

Anyway let's give it another try.....I thought we were in a global warming situation??? You'd never know it from the weather we were having. Today it's 62F (17C)... it's bloody June already and we should be at 80F (26C) already. I'm beginning to think that this is going to be the summer that never was. We go through days of rain and fog and drizzle. Followed by a teaser day or two fo sun and then rain again. The constant fluctuations in the baraometric pressure is giving me mega-migraines. Trying to be functional is just so much fun, especially when the meds don't kick in.

Doesn't help the depression either....although I read recently that one of my daily meds may be causing or at least adding to the depression. Wonderful!! such a chioce ...breathe or be depressed. damned if you do and damned if you don't!

Been out photography in the garden but there are just so many rose pictures that you can take. If the weather holds we are supposed to go out later. That is if the mosquitos don't eat us alive!!

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Glimmer at the end of the tunnel...

Mon Jun 8, 2009, 4:55 PM
Thank you everyone who send good wishes my way they helped alot! :hug:s to all!

Things are a bit lighter and my soul is such that it eventually kicks in to help defeat the demons. By nature I am not one to stay down too long. I suspect that much of what is the problem has to do with the changes a woman goes through....it's a b@#$% let me tell you! But ultimately the choice was mine not to do the hormonal path and I can only hope that this is nearing the end..... ten years is just waaaayyyy to long!

Things are looking up I figured out how to get a new tripod without any cost to the family budget... I got a letter from the bank saying my rewards points were going to start to expire and that future points will have a specific lifetime. Ding! the light went off and I went searching to see if possibly they had tripods .... :) They did! and good ones too.... I ordered a 72" Zeico tripod, I also was able to get a monopod and some filters and there was enough points left for a simple MP3 player so that I can finally listen to music at work and not have to haul half the CD cabinet with me.

The tripod and monopod arrived today and they were of a better quality than I expected. I already tried the tripod out. It's strange to work with one that really works and hasn't been rigged with inventive Russian-American engineering to hold it together.

There is plenty to photograph.... Anyone in the New York area interested in photographing roses is certainly welcome.... last count there were about a thousand (no exaggeraqtion) rosebuds and/or roses in bloom. My neighbors are envious and everyone wants to know my secret (judicious hacking on St Valentines day, a 2 in 1 systemic plant food and frequent deadheading) :) The irises are almost all finished but the peonies are in full bloom and the first of the lilies are soon to make an appearance. My tomates are already two feet (60 cm) high and flowering. Another couple of weeks and I should have tomatoes! My peppers are off and running...I see quite a few little peppers...hopefully the ants and the bettles will leave them alone.

It's supposed to rain again all day tomorrow... and it's really cold too. I don't remember having such a cold spring in a long time. I don't know about other places but in America we are having some really wild weather. I heard there was tornadoes in Denver, Colorado yesterday...something they never had and a friend said they were supposed to drop down to 42 degree F tonight... (that's 5 degrees C)... It's June for God's sake! Some global warming we got going!

Anyway enough rambling for tonight.... Have a good and safe one whether it's evening or day where ever you are...
